In a small village beside a sparkling river, there stood a giant mango tree named Mingo. Her branches stretched wide like open arms, giving shade to children, birds, squirrels, and even tired travelers.
Every morning, little Tia walked past Mingo on her way to school. She loved the tree dearly.
βGood morning, Mingo!β Tia would say, patting the rough bark gently.
The other children laughed.
βTrees canβt hear you!β they teased.
But Tia smiled. βMaybe they canβ¦ just differently.β
One hot summer afternoon, the village became dusty and dry. The river shrank, flowers drooped, and many leaves on Mingoβs branches turned yellow.
Some villagers began cutting nearby trees for extra wood.
βItβs only a few trees,β they said.
But soon the air grew hotter. Birds disappeared. The ground cracked beneath the blazing sun.
Tia felt sad when she saw Mingo losing leaves day after day.
One evening, she carried a bucket of water and poured it carefully around Mingoβs roots.
βYouβve always taken care of us,β Tia whispered. βNow itβs our turn.β
The next morning, Tia returned with her friends. Together they watered the tree, cleaned up trash around it, and planted tiny saplings nearby.
Slowly, the villagers noticed the childrenβs hard work.
An old grandfather said, βPerhaps we forgot how much trees do for us.β
Soon everyone joined in. Some planted neem trees, some mango trees, and others flowering plants. They stopped throwing garbage near the river and promised not to cut healthy trees unless it was truly necessary.
Days passed, and the village slowly changed. Cool breezes returned. Birds chirped happily again. Tiny green leaves began growing on Mingoβs branches.
One quiet evening, Tia sat beneath the tree reading a book when a soft rustling sound floated through the air.
βThank youβ¦β
Tia looked around in surprise. No one was there.
Again came the whisper, gentle as the wind.
βThank you for caring.β
The leaves shimmered softly in the golden sunset. Tia smiled warmly.
She didnβt know if the tree had truly spokenβ¦ or if nature simply had its own magical way of showing gratitude.
From that day on, the children of the village became known as the Guardians of Green.
And every time the wind danced through Mingoβs branches, it sounded just like a happy whisper sayingβ
βThank you.β

Trees give us shade, fruit, clean air, and homes for animals. When we care for trees, they continue caring for us and the world around us.
